Air Conditioning

Air conditioning break-downs lead to refrigeration leaks. Refrigerant is not only harmful to your car, it’s harmful to the environment. Your car’s compressor and evaporator can be damaged due to leaking refrigeration. Proper maintenance will ensure that your domestic car or import car doesn’t start to feel like a much older vehicle. While AC systems today are fairly complex, our expert technicians can help you keep your cool. Some of the basic components that make up your vehicle’s air conditioning system include:

Condenser

The primary function of the condenser is to keep the system refrigerant cool. The condenser radiates heat which is released by compressor gases and condenses the gases into high-pressure liquids.  The condenser is typically found at the front of your vehicle, in front of the engine cooling radiator .

Compressor

A belt-driven device, the compressor restricts refrigerant gas and transfers it into the condenser. Acting as a simple pump, the compressor is at the core of a vehicle’s air conditioning system. The compressor is typically found at the front of your vehicle, in front of the engine cooling radiator.

Receiver

Serving as a storage receptacle for the refrigerant, the receiver is also called the drier since it absorbs moisture from the refrigerant. The receiver also filters debris and acids from the refrigerant keeping them from harming your AC system. Your drier should be changed every 3-4 years to ensure filtration quality and prevent damage to your AC system.

Batteries

There are three main arts to your electrical system: the battery, the starter, and the alternator. Working together these individual components help start your engine and keep it running smoothly.   Without proper maintenance, one of these parts might falter and your car will no longer start or run properly.  It is important to get your battery checked with every oil change. The expert technicians at AutoWorks of Tampa can pinpoint these problems before they occur or help diagnose them when they occur and help keep you on the road.  Your car battery is responsible for making your battery run. How does this happen? The battery converts chemical energy and turns it into electrical energy. This energy not only allows you to start your car, it helps to keep your car running by stabilizing voltage. If you’ve ever encountered a dead battery, chances are the overall battery power is low or the cables or terminal might be loose. If you are experiencing slow engine crank or just prefer to stay ahead of any potential major problems, we can help diagnose the overall health of your battery before you run into trouble.

Belts and Hose Inspection

Belts and hoses tend to have the shortest lifespan of all the equipment in your vehicle. Constant vibration, harmful chemicals and heat these parts until they ultimately fray, leak crack, and peel. Proper maintenance and replacement allow your vehicle to continue to run properly. Determining the condition of your belts and hoses simply by their appearance is not enough. Belts and hoses require ongoing and diligent inspection.  A damaged piece of a belt or a hose can lead to serious damage to your vehicle so it is important to inspect belts and hoses on a regular basis. And while drivers are fairly attentive when it comes to regular oil changes, they tend to forget about the condition of their belts and hoses. While an overdue oil change can potentially cause some damage to your car, a cracked belt or leaking hose can be detrimental to the overall health of your car. We can help to ensure the quality of your belts and hoses with our system of inspection: - Searching for peeling, glazing, cracking and softening - Testing for the desired alignment - Testing for desired tension - Record condition of belts and hoses for future appointments - Testing the cooling system for leaks

Brake Service & Systems

Brakes are the most critical safety feature on your vehicle. If your brakes aren’t working properly you increase the risk of a collision. Squealing noises when you apply your brakes are a sign of a potential problem. If you find that you need to exert extra pressure to come to a stop, feel vibrations through the pedal or vibrations in the steering column these are also warning signs that your brakes need attention from a certified mechanic right away. Brake pads and brakes wear down over time, especially in stop and go traffic. Routine brake inspections and brake maintenance can help ensure that your brakes are operating safely. A typical driver can put 12,000 – 1,000 miles a year on their vehicle. This means you put your foot on your brake roughly 75,000 times a year. The brake pad friction materials in your car wear very slowly, in fact it can be difficult to notice when your brakes may need to be replaced.  These are some additional signs that your brakes may be in need of repair: -  Longer stopping distances - A tendency for one or more of your wheels to lock up and skid when braking - Noticeable pulling to one side while using brakes Bring your vehicle to AutoWorks of Tampa for comprehensive brake system maintenance and brake system repair including: - Complete brake fluid flush - Disc and drum brake service - Anti-lock brake system diagnosis and repair

Cooling System Maintenance

The cooling system of your vehicle protects the car from overheating, damage and breakdowns by regulating the engine temperature. This also keeps the engine from freezing in colder climates and during the colder winter months. One of the most common causes of car problems, a cooling system failure can lead to major engine damage. Low coolant levels, leaks and older coolant fluid an all be culprits to engine trouble. Regular system maintenance can help prevent all of these issues. Be sure to refer to your car’s Preventative Maintenance Schedule for specific cooling system service needs and intervals. We will automatically inspect the levels of your coolant and the condition of your coolant every time you bring your car in for service. Cooling system failure is one of the most common causes of car problems. Low coolant levels, older coolant fluid, and leaks can all lead to major engine damage. The good news is that all of these problems are easily preventable with regular system maintenance. Refer to your car’s Preventative Maintenance Schedule for recommended intervals for specific cooling system service needs.

CV & Axle Drive

The structural component connecting two wheels on opposite sides, the axle on your vehicle is a load bearing assembly and acts like a central shaft. The axle maintains the position of these wheels and is designed based on the design of your specific vehicle. For trucks and off-road vehicles, the axle keeps the wheel position steady under stress. Conventional axles are used for the typical driver. Regardless of what type of vehicle you drive the axle must bear the weight of your car in addition to any cargo load. If you notice a clicking or clunking noise, if you hear a loud screeching noise while driving, if you feel a vibration that increases with speed while in motion, or notice a vibration in the floorboard of your vehicle, your drive axle might need to be replaced. Additional signs of CV axle issues include resistance from tires when maneuvering your car and trouble turning. An inspection of the CV axle is focused on checking the axle but often times our expert technicians will find problems associated with CV joints or CV boots, The components of the CV axle combine into one working units it is extremely important to review the working conditions of all of the components related to CV axle maintenance. When it comes to axle inspection, we are your source for expert service and thorough diagnostics for the equipment that takes you wherever you need to go.

Exhaust

Exhaust systems today provide better safety, better pollution and noise control and better overall fuel efficiency. But stronger exhaust systems still need regular maintenance. Your vehicle’s exhaust pipe, muffler, and catalytic converter are still vulnerable to damage and corrosion. Regular Exhaust system maintenance and repair can help you save money on gas by helping your engine burn fuel more efficiently. In addition, regular inspections can help reduce pollutants that cause smog by making sure most of the harmful gases and compounds are burned in the catalytic converter and the exhaust system before they can be released into the atmosphere. If you find that your car is making a noise when you step on the gas or if you’ve begun to hear low rumbles then you may have a car exhaust problem. While these issues are easy to hear, many car owners don’t realize that these annoyances can be a sign that something larger may be going on with your vehicle’s exhaust system. As with anything else that affects the function or performance of your car, exhaust repair and muffler repair in Tampa, FL is not something you should ignore. We specialize in exhaust service and muffler service in Tampa. We can handle everything from muffler upgrades and simple part replacements to more comprehensive diagnostic testing and complete exhaust system overhauls. Oil, Lube, and Filter

One of the easiest things you can do to extend the life of your vehicle and promote maximum performance is a regular oil change and filter replacement in Tampa. Oil lubricates the components in your vehicle’s engine and reduces the amount of friction between these components. The engine generates a large amount of heat and the oil acts as a cooling agent as it travels through the engine. Harmful particles that are created during combustion are also absorbed by oil and directed to the oil filter. The oil filter then sifts out the debris producing free-flowing oil. The oil and the oil filter work together to keep the engine in your vehicle operating at optimal levels. During an oil change, our technicians will inspect the oil filter and replace the filter in order to keep your oil contaminant free. As part of the oil change, we will also lubricate the chassis components of your vehicle. Every lube, oil and filter change comes with our guarantee that your engine oil is clean and the necessary parts of your engine are properly lubricated. Old, dirty oil has a slower flow which can cause your engine to work harder leading to increased wear on the engine. Routine lube and oil changes will keep your engine strong and extend the life of your vehicle.

Shocks and Struts

The suspension system of your vehicle is a critical control and safety element. Shocks and struts protect you from a bumpy ride but more importantly, they keep your tires on the road and prevent your car from flipping over during sharp turns and curves. An essential part of your car’s suspension system, the strut assembly, is attached to the front wheels and plays the role of absorbing shock from the road. If your vehicle has damaged or faulty struts it will affect the comfort of your ride as well as the effectiveness of your brakes. In order to extend the life of your vehicle and ensure even tread wear, shock and strut repair in Tampa is vital. Keeping your suspension in good working condition is crucial in order to ensure a safe and smooth ride. Shocks and struts wear out slowly and last a long time. It is recommended that you have your shocks and struts checked after 50,000 miles. There are also some clear warning-signs to which will let you know when it is time for shock and strut repair or replacement. Leaning, floating, nose-diving or bouncing are all signs that it is time to take your car to AutoWorks of Tampa. We carry a full line of shock absorbers, coil springs, and struts to fit the needs of your vehicle

Tire Rotation

Routine tire rotation prevents uneven tread wear. The front tires of your vehicle are primarily responsible for turning and steering, therefore, they experience greater stress. Regular rotation ensures that tire wear is evenly spread and helps to extend the life of your tires. These tire rotations also increase fuel economy since your engine will run more efficiently with even tread wear. Ultimately regular tire rotations lead to better overall performance. Ignoring the importance of ongoing tire rotations can lead to tire failure or a blow-out. Healthy tire tread prevents a vehicle from losing traction or hydroplaning. In order to ensure the safety of your vehicle and that of your passengers be sure to bring your car in for regular tire rotation, tire inspections, and tire tread depth checks. We use our state of the art alignment diagnostics to determine any necessary adjustments for your car, truck or SUV. Signs that your car needs tire and wheel service include: - Uneven or excessive tire wear - Vibration in the steering column - Steering wheel pulling to the left or the right - Steering wheel does not feel centered when traveling straight ahead - Your car feels like it is loose or wandering Our comprehensive tire and wheel services include: - Wheel alignment - Tire balance and rotation - Mount and balance new tires
